Funding

Students registered in the CSCS are eligible for competitive funding from a variety of sources as noted below:


  1. ONTARIO STUDENT OPPORTUNITY TRUST FUND (OSOTF) BURSARY

    This bursary was created to provide financial assistance to registered CSCS students in need. CSCS students are eligible for one award per academic year and preference will be given to students who have not previously won. In addition to the OSOTF criteria, all (delete-Program) students must have been enrolled in the CSCS for a minimum of 6 months (from date of acceptance letter), MSc students must have completed a half credit listed Program cardiovascular graduate course and PhD students must be registered in or have completed a half credit of the CSCS core program requirement. The supervisor must attest in his letter of reference that there is financial need and no other source of funding available for the student.

  2. THE QUEEN ELIZABETH II GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (QEII-GSST)

    The QEII-GSST program is designed to encourage excellence in graduate studies in science and technology. The program is supported through funds provided by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and by funds raised by the University of Toronto and the Heart & Stroke Foundation. To be awarded to graduate students at the University of Toronto who are pursuing cardiovascular/stroke research. Students must have maintained an overall A- average over the last two years of study at the post-secondary level. Recipients should also exhibit research ability/potential, good communication skills and interpersonal/leadership abilities. Preference will be given to (1) Graduate students supervised by faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine who are members of the Heart & Stroke/Richard Lewar Centre for Excellence at the University of Toronto; (2) Graduate students supervised by faculty members in the Faculty of Medicine conducting cardiovascular/stroke research; and (3) Graduate students supervised by faculty members at the University of Toronto conducting cardiovascular/stroke research.

  4. OTHER FUNDING SOURCES

    Major awards through the university include University of Toronto Open Fellowships, and Connaught and Ontario Graduate Scholarships. External agency awards are available from the CIHR, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the National Science & Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and other specialized funding bodies. Many supervisors provide a stipend from their grants. Teaching assistantships are available from some departments and the Heart & Stroke/Richard Lewar Centre of Excellence offers Fellowships for meritorious students.
