Mr. Lorne Phenix Biographical Sketch

Mr. Lorne Phenix was born in 1928 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. After finishing high school he entered the family business in Property Management. Mr. Phenix was an avid golfer, enjoyed travel and photography, and was interested in automobiles. As well, he had a keen interest in aviation and in 1968 he had an exhibit of WWI planes at the Royal Military Institute in Toronto. Unfortunately, Mr. Phenix unexpectedly suffered a massive heart attack from which he did not recover. He died in his prime, at the age of 47, at a time when far less was known about cardiovascular disease. In retrospect, there was a family history of heart disease in the family. In establishing an award in his name, Mrs. Phenix hopes it will provide incentive to young graduate students working in the area of future improvements in therapies for heart disease in both women and men.
